The Rice Support to Lahu IDPs in Lashio project was initiated to provide emergency food relief to over 960 internally displaced persons (IDPs), including children, women, and people with disabilities, fleeing conflict in Northern Shan State, Myanmar.

The project provided crucial assistance to refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs) affected by the conflict along the Thailand-Myanmar border

The urban refugees came with families and stayed as Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in communities along the border. They are on the “dead list”, their houses were invaded, and their friends were arrested and killed.

Thanks to the collaboration of all parties involved, the needs of refugees and displaced persons were quickly assessed. Aid was procured and distributed efficiently, ensuring timely support for those in need.

During Covid, we provided almost 40,000 hot meals over eight months through our Free Food Campaign. Now, as many people have found new jobs, returned home, or no longer need food support, it’s time for us to end the project.

During Phase 3 of the COVID-19 pandemic, as the Thai government enforced lockdowns and checkpoints, we distributed food packages to 1,020 migrant worker families across 32 targeted areas in three districts of Chiang Mai.
